On March 20th, 2025, Winklmayr Leathercraft had the distinct honour of partnering with the celebrated Princess of Africa, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, for a truly memorable event at the Itlhokomeleng Association for Care of the Aged and Disabled in Alexandra. Our commitment to uplifting local communities and supporting the incredible grandmothers of our society resonates deeply with Winklmyr, and this day was a beautiful reflection of that mission.
The event was part of Yvonne's 60th birthday celebrations and commemorated 40 years in music. Shoprite kindly contributed 100 hampers for distribution, and as a fan of Winklmayr, Yvonne wanted to share this with goGOGOgo. The day started off at the Ulusha Hub in Alex Mall, where we gathered with friends, family, and community members. We visited Khulani Creatives, which is run by Ponani and operates the youth program with goGOGOgo. The atmosphere was vibrant with excitement as we joined Yvonne Chaka and goGOGOgo founder Jane Simmonds and hopped on the minibus, setting out to visit the homes of our beloved gogos.
Our journey began with an inspiring visit to Gogo Anna Mabena’s home in Far East Bank, where we were welcomed with warmth and hospitality. It was a touching moment as gifts were exchanged between the gogos and Yvonne in recognition of the strength and resilience of these remarkable women.
Following our heartfelt visit to Gogo Anna's home, we continued to Itlhokomeleng, where we met with the outreach gogos and mkhulus who play a vital role in the goGOGOgo initiatives. A new sewing facility is being prepared, developing empowerment and entrepreneurial spirit in the community.
Yvonne distributed hampers to Gogo Dr Marjorie Manganye, It was a beautiful reminder of the importance of community and our bonds.
We believe in the power of collaboration and the impact of giving back. Our partnership with goGOGOgo aligns perfectly with our vision of supporting local artisans and creating opportunities. We are proud to be part of a community that values creativity, craftsmanship, and the undeniable spirit of our grandmothers.
