The Winklmayr family has a rich history in the leathercraft industry, spanning several generations. Working with leather is a family tradition that has been traced back all the way to the Jakob Kammerer workshop in 1691. More recently, Hanspeter’s grandfather, Johann Winklmayr, started a small leather goods business in Austria in the early 1900s, which was passed down to Hanspeter’s father, Johann Georg Winklmayr.

HP’s brother Georg, operates the Austrian family business and expanded the product range to include luxurious handmade automotive and aerospace upholstery.

HP’s entrepreneurial sense and design skills found their home in the newly established, Leathercraft Winklmayr company in South Africa, quickly developing a reputation for style, quality, and craftsmanship.

A Lifetime of Leathercraft Luxury

Hanspeter Winklmayr is a visionary entrepreneur who has dedicated his life to the art of crafting with leather. Hanspeter developed a passion for leather goods at a young age and was the youngest Masters' degree graduate at the Vienna School of Fashion in his year. He didn’t stay in Austria, choosing to rather accept a recruitment offer to join South Africa’s premier leather goods company at the time.

In 1989, Hanspeter co-founded Via La Moda, a successful business producing exotic leather goods. Three decades later, the passion for crafting high-quality, artisanal leather products led him to launch his own brand Leathercraft Winklmayr, in honour of his family legacy in 2021.

With Leathercraft Winklmayr, Hanspeter creates artisanal leather goods that combine traditional craftsmanship with modern, iconic design. Each product is made by skilled artisans using the finest materials, resulting in pieces that are as beautiful as they are functional.

Hanspeter’s commitment to quality and attention to detail are evident in every aspect of the Leathercraft Winklmayr brand. From the hand-selected leather to the precise stitching and finishing touches, every product is crafted with care and precision.

Despite the tremendous success of his artistry, HP Winklmayr remains humble and passionate about his work. He continues to push the boundaries of leather crafting and is always looking for ways to innovate and improve his craft.
