Uniting Craftsmanship and Sustainability: A Fusion of Luxury and Responsibility - Not Adding to the Landfill
This is the story of the inspiring collaboration between Winklmayr Leathercraft and goGOGOgo, a registered non-profit organization empowering female third-generation caregivers, more affectionately known as gogos, in South Africa. Together, we are redefining luxury packaging to preserve the planet and make a positive impact on our communities.
This year, we took a significant step forward by revolutionising a packaging solution for our handbags. We are proud to introduce you to a new level of handbag packaging, at once luxurious and sustainable, stitchbond fabric bags created from recycled discarded South African plastic bottles.
This collaboration is about more than just packaging. It's about creating a meaningful connection between craftsmanship and sustainability. By partnering with goGOGOgo the non-profit organisation in Johannesburg, we are sourcing sustainable materials and also empowering gogos, who play a vital role in raising some 4 million children in South Africa alone.
goGOGOgo's mission to transform the lives of gogos and their children through skills development, aligns perfectly with our own vision of making a positive difference in the lives of the people we interact with through our work. This project literally provides them with both an activity as well as a source of income, which benefits the community very directly.
We are also grateful to Romatex, one of the largest household textile manufacturers in South Africa, for supplying us with their innovative Stitchbond fabric. This non-woven 100% polyester fabric, made from rPET fiber, is versatile, luxurious to the touch and durable. It also reduces single-use plastic waste. Over the years, Romatex has repurposed over a hundred million bottles into various versions of this incredible material, making a significant impact in the reduction of plastic waste in South Africa.
